2.10. InnoWebinar: Let’s make research data utilisation and transfers fluent through data management planning

Many funders require data management planning at the beginning of a research project. It is also important to tell the funder how intellectual property rights (IPR) will be taken into account in the project.

A DMP is a research project quality management tool that helps researchers determine, for example, storage and protection solutions for data, as well as documentation, publication and archiving methods, throughout the life cycle of their project. In practice, this is done by drawing up a data management plan (DMP) for the project.

A DMP guides researchers to make choices that are in line with the principles of responsible science and the requirements of legislation. It is useful and recommended to draw up a DMP to support the processing of data, even if the funder does not require it.

A DMP also supports the project in outlining IPR, data protection and contractual issues, for example when you are considering under what conditions the data generated in the project can be transferred to research partners, companies or for use by the scientific community.

In this webinar, Data Support at the University of Oulu and Maarit Jokela, IPR Manager at the Innovation Centre, will explain how data management planning ensures the smooth processing and utilization of research data in accordance with the project's goals and schedules.
